Pakistan rejects India's new maps that claims PoK, Gilgit, Baltistan as its part

According to the Pakistan government, the latest maps are incorrect and legally untenable as the Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK) reveals being part of the newly created Union Territory in India.

Two new Union Territories have been created from the former Jammu and Kashmir state. These are J&K and Ladakh.

In the new maps PoK is seen as part of J&K UT while Gilgit-Baltistan in Ladakh UT.

The Pakistan Foreign Office said, “(The political maps) displaying Jammu and Kashmir region and seeking to depict parts of Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir within the territorial jurisdiction of India, are incorrect, legally untenable, void and in complete violation of the relevant Union Nations Security Council Resolutions.”

The office added further that Pakistan government rejects the maps as these are incompatible with maps of United Nations that has recognized the disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Foreign Office continued in the statement that the neighboring country cannot prejudice inalienable right to self-determination of people of Jammu and Kashmir under India’s control.

India bifurcated the former Jammu and Kashmir state into two UTs officially on Thursday in accordance with the August 5 announcement of revoking Article 370 from Indian Constitution.

The Article 370 provided special status to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
