Traverse City is a bustling city of over 14,000 with a classic, small-town feel. It sits in the heart of some of the most beautiful, scenic country in Northern Michigan. The downtown district overlooks Grand Traverse Bay, and the nearby Leelenau Peninsula is home to many award-winning wineries and their vineyards. Also nearby is the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, one of the lengthiest, most pristine stretches of dog-friendly beach in the state. Traverse City is a dog-loving city, with many area hotels and resorts offering pet-friendly accommodations.

Crystal Mountain Resort

Just south of Traverse City, in the village of Thompsonville, is Crystal Mountain Resort. The resort offers a variety of lodging options, from hotel and guest rooms to private cabins, condos, and town homes with up to five bedrooms. Crystal Mountain welcomes pets of all sizes for a fee of $50 for the first night and $10 for each additional night. This four-seasons resort offers world-class golfing in the warmer months and both downhill and cross-country skiing in the winter. Rates vary seasonally, starting at around $115 a night based on double occupancy.

Baymont Inn & Suites

Location is everything, and Baymont Inn & Suites has it. The hotel is located near the Grand Traverse Mall, with easy access to attractions such as the Great Wolf Lodge indoor water park and the historic downtown district. Amenities at the hotel include an indoor pool, a fitness center, and a hearty continental breakfast. The location is also in close proximity to many dining establishments, including Applebee’s, Olive Garden, Cracker Barrel, and La Senorita. Pets are allowed in guest rooms, with double occupancy rates starting around $70 per night.

Quality Inn By the Bay

One of the most alluring attractions in Traverse City is the beach. Enjoy the waterfront with furry friends at Quality Inn By the Bay, located across the street from the Grand Traverse Bay and just east of the Traverse City State Park. Nearby are several watersports rental outlets, offering kayaks, jet skis, and other small watercraft for exploring the bay and all it has to offer. The hotel has an indoor pool and hot tub, free wifi, and a complimentary breakfast. The hotel is very pet-friendly, allowing as many as three or more pets in a room depending on the size of the animal. Room rates start at about $50, plus a fee of $10 per night per pet.

The Knollwood Motel

The Knollwood Motel is a rustic beachfront resort motel is located just east of Traverse City on the Grand Traverse Bay, in the town of Acme. The motel boasts 180 feet of pristine, sandy beach, with paddle boats, a playground area, charcoal grills, and a picnic area, making it a wonderful family destination. Accommodations are offered in private beachfront cabins or in motel rooms, some of which have their own kitchenettes. The small, family-run motel is open seasonally, from May 1 through October 31. One pet is allowed per room, or two if they are under five pounds each, for a fee of $9 per night. Room rates start at $58 per night.

Best Western Four Seasons

Best Western Four Seasons is located near Traverse City’s charming downtown district, the Old Mission Peninsula (home to vineyards and wineries), and a tenth of a mile from the Dennos Museum Center. The hotel offers some unique amenities, such as a pillow bar; guests are invited to choose from 15 different types of pillows, giving them the best night’s sleep possible. The hotel also boasts an 11-foot-deep indoor swimming pool, the deepest in the city. Rooms are available with refrigerators and microwaves as well. Pets are welcome in designated rooms for a fee of $10 per animal, per night. Room rates start around $70 per night.
