West Bengal police denied anti-citizenship law rally to the Popular Front of India (PFI) on Sunday in Murshidabad, said a senior police officer from the district.

Kerala-based PFI organization is an alleged radical Islamic outfit and applied for permission to hold a rally on January 5.

PFI West Bengal general secretary Manirul Sheikh said for the time being the organization is postponing the meeting due to denial.

Meanwhile, MP Abu Taher Khan from the ruling TMC party has lodged a police complaint against the outfit for using his name as one of the speakers in the posters without taking prior permission from him.

Lately Uttar Pradesh government wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah to ban PFI for its involvement in violence across the state while protesting against the CAA.

Sources from West Bengal reveals state will not allow PFI to hold meeting rallies as TMC wants to maintain distance from it.

TMC sources added that it is learned PFI may join hand with the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) in West Bengal to divide the minority votes.

State police sources said the outfit has considerable presence in Murshidabad and Malda districts.

It is alleged PFI had hands in the violent protests against CAA in these two districts from December 13 to 17.
