Over the period of past few months the company has been on an acquisition binge. Last month it bought Highlight and Shorts.

Instapaper was earlier popular on the iPhone for its ‘save it for later’ feature that helped in holding onto longer forms of content without missing. It had high ranks too in the App Store. Later it started facing competitions with new entries including Pocket and survival became challenging. Not much is heard from it for long and the last update was in May 2015.

The app was earlier acquired by Betaworks, in 2013. In 2014 it underwent transition and became more of a freemium model.

However, one thing is assured that the technology and talent of Instapaper would be valuable to Pinterest.

Pinterest was launched in March 2010 and requires registration to upload, save, sort and manage images called as pins in their term. It is free and acts like a personalied media platform. It allows businesses too in creating pages and promoting their companies on the web. The pages serve as virtual storefront.
