Pope Francis Meets Former Cuban President Fidel Castro

Pope Francis met former Cuban president Fidel Castro earlier today at his home after wrapping up the Mass in Havana’s Plaza of the Revolution. Both discussed about climate change for about 40 minutes and exchanged books too, said Vatican spokesman.

The retired comandate gave a copy of Fidel and Religion to pope and in returned received two books written by Italian theologian.

Wife, children and grandchildren of the 89-year-old too were present at home to welcome Pope Francis.

The pope urged Cubans in the mass to care for everyone and embrace a life of service.

In 1998 to John Paul II spoke from the plaza and the same was repeated by Pope Benedict XVI in 2012. A huge crowd had gathered for the mass. Many arrived the plaza even before dawn and several others were also seen sleeping on the concrete until sunrise.
