Religious Belief Kills Nigerian Woman Who Was Forced To Walk On Fire

A woman in Nigeria died after being thrown into a fire by a religious group to purify her soul.

The 25-year-old was tied up for six days and forced to fast throughout. Police said the religious group named La Prensa is led by Juan Gregorio Rocha Romero, who is now under custody along with four other members of the Assembly of God church.

Vilma Trujillo Garda was burned on Tuesday and Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Managua Silvio Jose Baez said its an act of fanaticism and religious ignorance.

The 23-year-old Rocha Romero denied of any wrongdoing by his group and alleged demons lifted the body of the woman and dropped her on the flames.

Pastor Sabas Calderon said the group believes purification ritual came through a revelation.

As the spirit of healing is in the fire it is urged a person need to pass through the test of fire that will purify soul.

Jose Baes added, “I am very sorry about Vilma Trujillo’s death because of fanaticism and religious ignofance. You cannot destroy a life in the name of God… Authentic religion, in which the true God is worshipped, does not annul reason or attempts against human life.”

Meanwhile, human rights group points out the death was due of sexism.

Human Rights Defenders Initiative Human Rights of Women, Herenia Amaya Parrales, said the guy who led the group does not deserve to be called a pastor and full weight of the law need to be applied.
