Selcom Ties With Mastercard To Make Tanzanian Economy Cashless

Tanzania is heading towards cashless economy. Selcom has partnered with Mastercard for variety of payment solutions and support the goal of John Magufuli government to widen the use of digital payment in the country.

The seven year strategic pratnership between the two payment giant will enable quick, secure and convenient acceptance of payment at more locations.

Lately introduced Masterpass QR at several merchants and retailers is benefiting consumers, retailers and local business houses.

According to Executive Director of Selcom, Sameer Hirji, the country has more than 40 million mobile phone subscribers as per data of 2017 and this means there are potentiality of creating and scaling innovative solutions on digital payment platform.

Mastercard’s Sub-Saharan Africa Division President Raghav Prasad said, “With the wider variety of payment options at consumers’ fingertips, it is equally important to ensure that they are able to use these solutions whereever they may be paying for goods or services.”

He added further that the people need to have access to relevant financial tools so that the gap is narrowed and Selcom will be building a stronger payment ecosystem.

Selcom will also be linking up Mastercard card with mobile wallet considering high usage of mobile money account.

Hirji said they are looking ahead to provide meaningful connections and relevant technology to local business houses.
