Boston offers a great selection of shops with top names, designer brands and bargain prices in a compact downtown area that has most of the shops within easy walking distance of each other.

Back Bay

The major shopping attractions are centered round Back Bay and Downtown Crossing. The two major malls Copley Place and Prudential Center on opposite sides of Huntingdon Avenue and are joined by a pedestrian walkway.Copley Place hosts 75 upmarket stores including Neiman Marcus, Barneys New York, Tiffany & Co., Louis Vuitton and Emporio Armani.

The Prudential Center also has about 75 stores including New England’s #1 shopping & dining Ann Taylor, The Cheesecake Factory, Lacoste, Legal Sea Foods, Lord & Taylor, Saks Fifth Avenue and Sephora. The center has an excellent food court with a wide range of eating places. From here head down Newbury Street or Boylston Street these streets run parallel with each other towards downtown Boston and host a wide selection of specialty shops, clothes shops and restaurants that become increasingly exclusive (and expensive) approaching Boston Common.

Downtown Crossing

Downtown Crossing was home to one of Boston’s best known attractions Filene’s Basement. For almost 100 years, Filene’s basement sold top quality designer goods at a fraction of the retail price and the success of the Boston store led to a chain of similar stores stretching from Illinois to Florida.

The original store closed in 2007 as part of the redevelopment of downtown Boston. A new store was opened in 2009 at 487 Boylston Street offering cut price bargains. Downtown Crossing , which stretches from Boston Common towards South Station, is a vibrant shopping center with a range of outlets ranging from small independent retailers to large department stores such as Macy’s on Washington Street.

Getting to the shops in downtown Boston is easy, Boston’s excellent transport links attract visitors from all over the world. Once in Boston, take the subway (T) to Copley, Back Bay or Downtown Crossing and all the shops mentioned above are in walking distance.
