According to Bavaria’s interior minister the man blew himself at around 22:10 local time (20:10 GMT) after being stopped from entering the music festival outside the Eugens Weinstube bar in the centre of the town.

The town is home to a United States military base and has a population of about 40,000 residents.

An eyewitness said panic was seen among everyone after the blast. Some however considered the explosion to have been caused by a gas explosion. Few others said a rucksack had exploded.

The city centre was sealed immediately following the explosion and experts are investigating the kind of explosives used. Ansbach deputy police chief Roman Fertinger said pieces of metal had been used too in the explosive device.

Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Hermann said the Syrian man was rejected of asylum a year ago. He had entered Germany two years ago.

Few days before, on July 22, a German-Iranian teenager killed nine people going on a shooting rampage in the Bavarian state capital, Munich.

On July 18 a teenage asylum seeker from Afghanistan injured five people with axe on a train.
