Jasber was on the run for two days and on Monday he turned in to police. He was on the watch card of German police for months. His flat in the eastern city of Chemnitz was raided on Saturday.

After his arrest the refugee was on hunger strike and a German news website reported he was under round-the-clock surveillance.

Jasber came to Germany about a year ago and was granted asylum. Last week intelligence input said he might be planning an attack. The eastern state of Saxony was thereafter put on high alert.

According to authorities, Jasber received instructions about bomb-making through internet.

BBC comments death of the suspect will hike difficulties for the police in finding information about his plans.

In the raid police discovered 1.5kg of TATP from his flat.

TATP is a home-made explosive that was used last year in the deadly jihadist attacks in Paris and Brussels this year too.

Authorities said the suspect managed to slip the internet it is believed he had links to the ISIS militant group of Iraq and Syria too.
