A woman in Tanzania posed as man for about a decade and initially to get a job as miner in a Tanzanite mine.

Pili Hussein grew up in a large family with 37 siblings. At young age she was put to work as a care taker to livestock. She was treated as a boy by her father and she didn’t like the life.

Her marriage too was abusive and at the age of 31 she escaped to do something big for herself and on her own.

Pili took the job of minor by hiding her identity as women are not allowed to work in the tunnels. Posing a man she acted like a gorilla, fought like man and used bad language.

Talking to BBC she said used to work for 12 hours a day initially in the mine and after about one year she uncovered two clusters of tanzanite stones. She became rich and built homes for her family members. She started her own mining business too.

However, an unlikely circumstance forced Pili to reveal her identity. She was accused of rape by another female. To uncover the truth to police she disclosed herself. She was thereafter released from police custody.

Her fellow miners were stunned to learn the truth about her identity.

Pili run a mining company and about seventy people work under her.
