Toyota Recalls 1.43 Million Cars Globally Over Non-Takata Faulty Airbags

Toyota announced Tuesday to be recalling its 1.43 million vehicles from across the world for faulty airbags. The affected cars are the models of Prius and Lexus between 2008 and 2012.

Over the past few years the auto industry has been rocked by millions of recalls over faulty airbags supplied by Japanese company Takata, but the latest call is not linked as it is non-Takata products.

Eleven deaths and over 100 injuries have been reported due to faulty Takata safety devices across the world.

Twelve carmakers have been affected globally due to faulty Takata products.

Toyota confirmed there has been no report of injuries or fatalities due to the problems with airbags in its cars that is being recalled.

The recalled cars include 495,000 and 743,000 units sold in North America and Japan respectively.

The Japanese auto giant said in a released statement the airbag inflator fitted in the cars may have a small crack in a weld and this could result in widening over time.

Toyota further added partial inflate could be witnessed in the airbag and this could enter the interior of the vehicle, causing injury to driver and others seated inside.
