Train Derailed In Tanzania; All 800 Passengers Escaped Death

A passenger train in Tanzania carrying more than 800 travelers derailed Friday night at a black spot, Mazimbu Bridge, in Morogoro. Luckily all the passengers cheated death.

Flooding, landslides and road accidents are common in the country during rainy seasons. Several areas received heavy showers on Friday.

Tanzania Railways Limited (TRL) officials said investigation is under progress, but he failed to reveal what caused the derailment.

Passengers said the bridge was submerged in water and this is suspected to be the primary cause of derailment of the train.

After the accieents the passengers had to wait for about eight years for the alternate train.

A local resident of Mgudeni in Mazimbu said he heard a loud bang that was caused by the abrupt braking of the train. He initially thought that a cargo train may have suffered a mechanical fault.

TRL PR Manager Midladjy Maez confirmed the accident saying seven wagons of the train suffered derailment and gliding.

He added the cause of derailment is yet to be understood and technicians are working to assess the situation.
