United States President Donald Trump is in favour of welcoming just skilled workers to the country and end visa lottery system. This will reduce the backlogs of highly-skilled workers and to benefit many IT professionals from countries like India.

Once the proposal becomes a law after getting through the Congress, the Green Card backlogs for skilled immigrants will reduce significantly.

In brief, Trump wants to end the Diversity Immigrant Visa Programme that awards up to 50,000 people a visa for a green card per year.

Green card in the States mean permanent residency and paves the way to US citizenship.

According to the president, the diversity visa fails to bring to country the best and brightest to the US.

Trump administration said, “Eliminate lottery and reallocate the visas to reduce the family-based backlog and high-skilled employment backlog.”

There are several other green card visa sources such as employment-based immigrants, family-sponsored immigrants, refugees and those who are granted asylum.

Countries like Bangladesh, India, Nigeria, Philippines and Pakistan are currently not eligible for diversity visa as they have sent more than 50,000 individuals to the States over the period of past five years.
