United States is in trade war with China by imposing tariffs on many Chinese imports. Lately it wants Google to end working on a censored project with the country.

Dubbed as Dragonfly project, Google is closely working with it which is a censored Chinese Search engine. U.S. vice-president Mike Pence has called the search engine giant to stop work on it further.

It is reported the vice-president said the American companies must reconsider turning over intellectual property as they expand in the Chinese territory.

He added, “(the Dragonfly project) would strengthen Communist Party censorship and compromise the privacy of Chinese customers.”

The first report on Google’s plan of working on a censored search engine in China came in the month of August citing sensitive queries could be blacklisted like topics on politics, free speech, democracy, human rights and peaceful protest. This triggered internal protests among some of the employees.

Following the report Google CEO Sundar Pichai briefed the employees that the project was exploratory and in early stages.

Until 2010 Google operated its services in the Chinese territory and it is again getting prepared to take an entry. However, ahead of an entry Google need to testify before the House Judiciary Committee this November to allay concerns over privacy issues.

Pichai released a press statement saying, “We remain committed to continuing an active dialogue with members from both sides of the aisle, working proactively with Congress on a variety of issues, explaining how our products help millions of American consumers and businesses, and answering questions as they arise.”
