Venezuelan apex court banned Wednesday opposition leader Juan Guaido from leaving the country until a preliminary investigation is complete as he has caused harm to peace in the republic.

The verdict of Supreme Court comes after United States handed control of Venezuela’s US bank account to him. US is recognizing Guado as the legitimate president of Venezuela.

Over the decision of court the US National Security Adviser John Bolton warned of serious consequences if Guaido is harmed and democracy is subverted.

Earlier this week, US announced sanctions against Venezuela’s state-owned oil company PDVSA and hinted for a possible military action.

A travel advisory was also issued for US nationals to avoid visiting Venezuela as the country is currently having poor health infrastructure and civil unrest.

Apart from US there are at least twenty other countries to have recognized Guaido as interim president, but Turkey, Mexico, China and Russia have publicly backed Maduro.

Maduro on the other hand said in his recent interview to hold negotiations with the opposition. He said, “I am ready to sit down at the negotiating table with the opposition so that we could talk for the good of Venezuela.”

Meanwhile, European Union has given an ultimatum to Maduro to call elections within eight days. Failing to it Guaido will be recognized as president.

Several North and South American nations have opposed involvement of outside military in Venezuela.
