Venezuelan soldiers abandoned posts with Colombia border

Four Venezuelan troops have abandoned their watch Saturday at border with Colombia following confrontations with protesters supporting entry of US aid in the country. It is learned the soldiers asked assistance from Colombian immigration officials.

A day before two civilians was killed by the forces near the border with Brazil.

Tensions in Venezuela have erupted lately after opposition leader Juan Guaido announced earlier US aid will enter the country on Saturday. A caravan with thousands of his volunteers tried entering the country from Colombian border with more than 200 tons of humanitarian aid including medicine and food.

Last week US special envoy on Venezuela confirmed aid effort was being coordinated with Venezuelan with Guaido and his team.

Venezuela is currently undergoing through worst economic crisis and millions of people are struggling to buy medicines and food. Many Venezuelan has migrated to other countries.

Guaido self-declared himself as legitimate leader of Venezuela and called Maduro to step down arguing his 2018 re-election was a sham.

United States and several other western countries have recognized Guaido as legitimate leader and called Maduro to step down.

Meanwhile, Maduro has supports of Russia, China, Turkey and many other countries. He denied any crisis in the country and called the aid as US-orchestrated show.

Maduro said Friday United States is trying to destabilize the country and the opposition is trying to create a political theatre by trying to bring aid.

Adding further the president said his government should have full control over the Venezuelan borders and Venezuelan imports.
