Why India’s ruling party BJP to think again talking peace with Pakistan

With the loss of three states’ assembly elections the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in India urgently seeks a review of its policies including the religious fervour frequently unleashed on minority communities.

Neighboring country Pakistan however seems has recognized that when they wanted to normalize relations with India a cold shoulder reciprocated. The BJP government responded to the Kartarpur Corridor in a cold way and SAARC meet was kicked aside too.

Experts believe the Modi-led government has little to lose with such attitude as India is currently strong enough to take some political risks with the neighboring country. However, if Kartarpur corridor works out well, expansion of religious diplomacy could be possible.

There are others who would like to remind BJP that not talking with Pakistan may convert Pakistani Army’s successful kutayuddha into war in Jammu and Kashmir.

It is not to forget that Maldives didn’t reach India in its tough political time, but opted for China and also allowed establishment of oceanic station for Chinese submarines in the Indian Ocean.

More to all these, India never had good relations with Bangladesh. Experts say, “The Sheikh Hasina government in Bangladesh, while professing friendship with India… has justified taking large loans from China because ‘have to take whatever funds come to Bangladesh for the purpose of development’ adding pointedly that ‘India should also maintain cordial relationship with all its neighbors’.”

At the end it is true that Pakistan is now willing to talk trade and diplomats suggest connectivity through a trade corridor between the two countries.
