BREAKING: Explosion In NYC, 2 Dozen Injured

Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan was rocked with an explosion Saturday night injuring more than two dozen people.


New York fire Department officials said all the 25 injured are in non-life-threatening condition.

A pipe bomb blasted in a Jersey Shore garbage can ahead of charity race that was scheduled for the benefit of Marines and Navy sailors in the area of 23rd Street between Sixth and Seventh avenues at around 8:30 p.m. local time.

A major roadway was closed down. Firefighters, police officers and other first responders flooded to the spot. Counterterrorism bureau of New York Police Department too responded to the blast.

Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said their task force too was dispatched to the blast spot.

A law enforcement official who wanted to be anonymous said the blast didn’t stem from either a gas or gas leak. However, the nature of blast is yet to be revealed officially.

The injured were shifted to area hospitals.

Mercy College history professor Ryan McMillen said everybody started screaming and running at the blast scene.
