BREAKING: Rapid Fire Spreading In Santa Cruz Mountains

Fire is rapidly spreading in the Santa Cruz Mountains and hundreds of homes are now been threatened, said authorities and local media.

The fire started Monday afternoon at around 3 p.m. near Loma Prieta Road and Loma Chiquita Road. By the evening, at around 5:30 p.m., about 400 acres were burned.

TV footage showed cloud of smoke in mushroom shape was arched into the sky and flames moving toward a large.

Meanwhile, water-dropping aircraft are trying to save buildings and other structures including transmisison towars from fire.

Helicopters were seen in the footage dropping red fire retardant.

The area is now engulfed with low humidity and triple-digit temperatures. It is now in dangerous conditions.
