As the 47-year-old Darren H. Goforth was filling up his petrol car at a Houston chevron gas station at around 9:30 p.m. ET when a man shot him to death from behind. The attacker fired few more shots after Goforth fell to the ground.

Goforth was deputy to Harris County Sheriff Ron Hickman, who said the attack seems unprovoked execution-style killing.

Witnesses at the gas station called 911, but the response team of the emergency was not able to save the police officer.

The suspect is described by witnesses as a dark-complected male of about 20-year-old and he was wearing white t-shirt and red shorts during the incidence. Search operation of the attacker is in process and some say he was driving a dark red/maroon extended cab Ford Ranger.

Hickman said the hunt is going on and the person will be brought down to justice.

He added that Goforth may have been targeted because he was a law enforcement officer as no indication or link has been found for the killing.

Meanwhile, the surveillance footage of the gas station is being reviewed by the police.

The deputy is a 10-year veteran of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office and he has left behind a wife and two children.

The department wrote on the official Facebook page they have lost one brother and this is a difficult time for the office.
