From Finland to Switzerland , from the French, Italian and Austrian Alps to Canada, tourists and seasonal workers alike flock to winter destinations over the Christmas holidays and sometimes beyond. As with summer resort work, the experience can double as a holiday unto itself, as most roles allow for plenty of time to indulge in one’s choice of winter sports and activities.

Employment Options - Winter Resort Jobs Abroad

Winter tourism and hospitality offer several diverse positions for people interested in working in the international circuit that comes together at the world’s foremost skiing destinations.

Roles Available in Winter Work

Chalet Hosts are responsible for the guests’ holiday, from first contact to follow up queries. Chalet hosts working in smaller chalets provide breakfast, afternoon tea and a three course dinner on top of cleaning responsibilities. Those assigned to bigger chalets assist a chef in providing the meals but still serve as go-to person for guests.

Outdoor Guides serve as point of reference for trips on snow mobiles, reindeer safaris, husky dog sledding and more. This position suits people with high endurance, qualification skills in the outdoor recreation industry and mechanical skills.

Ski Au Pairs work with children up to 6 years old, looking after them while their parents are on the slopes. Responsibilities include assisting with ski school and après-ski activities. Extra income can be made by babysitting outside working hours.

Chalet Chefs cater to the chalet guests in providing packed lunches and three course dinners with a tight hold on budget. Knowledge and experience in commercial kitchen environments, budgeting and stock management are essential.

Ski Representatives work to ensure guests are well looked after in all of their needs, from airport arrivals and departures to après ski programmes. The position involves assisting with the start up and close down of the resort, meeting and greeting and customer service throughout the guests’ stay.

Ski Photographers work on scenic mountain look outs and take pictures of tourists on the slopes, from children to families or groups.

Ski and Snowboard Instructors teach classes on the mountains. The position requires an internationally recognized qualification endorsed by such bodies as International Ski Instructors Association.

Winter Employment Packages

Successful applicants usually receive an employment package that covers the season’s ski pass and ski and boot rental. Some jobs entitle workers to meals and shared accommodation. British employers often arrange the travel to and from the country of destination and offer medical insurance in their package.
