EU To Sign Free Trade Deal With Canada

After Belgian region endorsed agreement the European Union is reported to be signing a deal on Sunday with Canada. The path was paved by EU ambassadors in Brussels in a meeting on Friday. All the 28 member states of the bloc need to legally ratify it.

European Council President Donald Tusk confirmed a signing would be held on Sunday on the EU-Canada summit with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico is currently the rotating president of EU and said he is delighted the bloc is ready to sign the agreement with Canada.

Regional Parliament President Andre Antoine confirmed too about the upcoming deal saying Europe must also pass by Wallonia, which blocked it for several weeks and embarrassed EU too.

Politicians there feel the deal would undermine labor, consumer standards and environment apart from multinationals would crush local companies.

The text of upcoming agreement was finalized some two years ago and work on it had started in 2009.

Meanwhile, supporters to the deal believe it would yield billion through tariff and customs cuts.
