Hurricane Matthew headed Florida Thursday and is now considered the strongest storms to threaten the United States in past several years. Thousands of people in the region have been evacuated amid high alert warnings from forecasters as well as public officials.

Hurricane Matthew Hits Haiti With Strong Wind, Heavy Rain

The hurricane has hit with high rain and strong wind. Worse is being expected overnight and through most of the day.

Florida Gov. Rick Scott (R) has urged people to evacuate from zones which could be hard hit.

He said, “This is serious… This storm will kill you. Time is running out.”

The Hurricane Matthew has left about 300 dead in Haiti and pushed across the Bahamas. From South Florida to North Carolina it could bring high damage.

Earlier, Scott asked US President Barack Obama to suspend all tolls in Florida Turnpike, Alligator Alley, Central Florida Expressway Authority, Miami-Dade Expressway Authority and other affected areas.

US national Hurrican Center in Miami said, “Hurricane Matthew could rival or possibly exceed Gilbert if the core of the strongest winds does actually move over Jamaica.”
