In Three Weeks 800 Boko Haram Fighters Surrendered- Nigeria

Brig. Gen. Rabe Abubakar, director of defense information, said he can confirm the figure and they have surrendered to the Nigerian military.

One day before the disclosure of Abubakar the Nigerian military announced establishment of a rehabilitation camp for the surrendered members of Boko Haram.

The rehabilitation camp is learned to be providing vocational training with aims to help the former terrorists integrate again into society.

The Nigerian military has also urged through an online statement other members of Boko Haram to abandon the Islamic insurgency.

Since February 26 the army has also rescued 11,595 civilian hostages from the border regions with Niger, Chad and Cameroon.

The Nigerian military had also claimed earlier this year too dozens of Boko Haram members surrendered. They included children and women too.

It is being believed food shortages among the members could indicate further surrenders.

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has prioritized war against the militants after taking office some eleven months before.

Last year in December he claimed the country has won the war technically as the group cannot mount conventional attacks any more against dense cities or security forces.
