Maharashtra government formation – SC orders floor test tomorrow

Supreme Court orders Maharashtra government formation floor test is to be conducted tomorrow (November 27) at 5 pm and it should be televised live. Citing Senior Bommai Case it said there will be no secret ballot to it. Ahead of it the oath taking event for MLAs need to be concluded.

NCP said it is a historic verdict in favor of trio alliance – the NCP-Congress-Shiv Sena. Welcoming the apex court’s order on the Constitution Day, Sonia Gandhi responded that she is confident to win and form the government.

A Pro-tem Speaker is to be appointed to conduct the floor test. The procedure will probably have no debate as the apex court said floor test will be proceeded after the oath taking of MLAs.

Six names have been submitted to the governor for Pro-tem Speaker:

1) Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil (BJP)
2) Kalidas Kolambkar (BJP)
3) Babanrao Pachpute (BJP)
4) Balasaheb Thorat (Congress)
5) Kagda Chandya Padvi (Congress)
6) Dilip Walse-Patil (NCP)

Meanwhile, at a Mumbai 5-Star hotel meeting Monday evening NCP supremo Sharad Pawar assured all his MLAs are with him and rebel Ajit Pawar will no longer be the leader of the legislature party.

Senior Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan said, “We are confident that we have a majority in the Maharashtra Assembly. The reality of BJP‘s claim will be exposed tomorrow.”

Maharashtra Congress President and senior most MLA Balasaheb Thorat is elected as Congress legislative leader. He is very close to Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. He is trusted by the Congress chief.

Supreme Court order on Maharashtra government formation
