Finally Yahoo Inc. is sold. The taker is Verizon Communications Inc. and the agreed price to be paid is $4.8 billion.

Verizon to acquire Yahoo For .8 Billion

A person familiar to the matter said the Yahoo’s core internet business and some of the real estate too will become the property of New York-based Verizon.

During the period of dot-com boom in the Silicon Valley the the Yahoo’s business had a market capitalization of over $125 billion.

Lately Verizon has been trying to build up digital media and advertising business, and Yahoo deal is an added advantage to it.

The deal between Yahoo and Verizon is expected to be announced on Monday and it is believed Yahoo wants to keep the brand.

A person familiar with the deal said Yahoo’s chief executive Marissa Mayer may not have a prominent role under Verizon. If she is terminated, she will make over $50 million in compensation.

Verizon acquired AOL properties in 2015 for $4.4 billion. It hopes to plug data of its smartphones into the two acquired systems and build a competitor to online advertising giants including Alphabet and Facebook.

The other companies who were lured to acquire Yahoo Inc. included Bain Capital, TPG, Vista Equity Partners and Advent International Inc.
