Terror Attack In Mali’s Luxury Resort; 2 Killed, 36 Rescued

Two people were killed on Sunday after three gunmen attacked a luxury resort Le Campement in Bamako, capital city of Mali. Two of the attackers were killed too.

Initial official report reveals the gunmen were certainly terrorists and a Malian anti-terror force were deployed at the scene just few minutes after the attack.

Three United Nations staff were injured in the attack and a total of 32 people have been rescued. Most of the tourists at the resort were foreigners.

Mali’s Ministry of Security and Civil Protection said in a statement the armed individuals exchanged gunshots with the anti-terrorist force.

The statement added four jerry cans were also found at the scene. Those contained undetermined material.

The EU Training Mission in the country tweeted they are assessing in the situation.

Earlier in June the US Embassy in the city issued travel warning urging the Westerners to avoid visiting Mali as there are increased security threat.

The embassy statement read, “The US Embassy informs US citizens of a possible increased threat of attacks against Western diplomatic missions, places of worship, and other locations in Bamako where Westerners frequent.”
