Seattle Mayor Ed Murray said the area is not organized and has not been manageable for about two decades. In November he declared a state of emergency over the growing homeless population of the city.

The identities of the dead are not yet known. The description of suspects also goes unannounced by the police citing ongoing investigation and it is believed they have fled the camp.

Murray added the victims were four women and one man.

According to Harborview Medical Center, three injured and one dead victim was received by them. Two of the living is in critical condition and the third in serious condition.

The Seattle Police Chief Kathleen O’Toole said the larger population at the camp has no threat

The city currently houses about 2,000 people a night.

Murray said, “We have tried to do the best that we can given the circumstances we have but obviously I’m going to question was I good enough at my own job. It’s on me in the end.”
