3 Venezuelan opposition lawmakers taking shelters at foreign embassies

Losing congressional immunity three among 10 opposition members of Venezuelan parliament have taken refuge in foreign embassies. The country’s apex court earlier said all the ten should be investigated for treason, rebellion and conspiracy.

Mariela Magallanes and Americo de Grazia are in Italian embassy and Argentine embassy has given shelter to Richard Blanco.

Ms Magellanes is married to an Italian husband and she earlier had applied for citizenship.

Italy’s foreign ministry confirmed her shelter and said would be extending all possible hospitality and protection.

Last week opposition leader Juan Guaido tried to spark military rebellion against the constitutional president Nicolas Maduro.

Guaido self-declared himself as the president of Venezuela earlier this year in January. He is the leader of opposition-controlled National Assembly.

More than half ton countries including United States and some from Latin America recognized Guaido as legitimate leader of Venezuela while Maduro retains support of his military’s top ranks. China, Russia and several other nations are his allies.

A day before Guaido’s deputy Edgar Zambrano was detained and is still in prison.

A tweet by Zambrano on Wednesday described the manner arrest was conducted. He said the authorities surrounded his car and towed it with a crane after he refused to exit.

Meanwhile, it is learned Guaido has called for a fresh street protests on Saturday to keep pressure on Maduro to step down.
