Carlie Hebdo’s Latest Cartoon On Italy’s Earthquake Victims Welcomes Criticisms

New outrage has engulfed the controversial French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo. Its latest edition features a cartoon entitled “Earthquake. Italian-style” depicting the victims with varying degrees of injury.

Italy was hit by a 6.2-magnitude earthquake last week.

In the cartoon a severe bleeding man is labelled as “penne with tomato sauce.” “Penne au gratin” is written beside a badly bruised woman and a pile of victims under collapsed building with sticking legs from the rubbled is described as “Iasagna.”

Controversies have been sparked saying the labels are unpleasant and embarrassing satire.

Amatrice mayor Sergio Pirozzi said, “I’m sure it doesn’t correspond to the real sentiment of the French people.”

Pirozzi added irony is always welcome, but one should not satirize disasters.

Amatrice was hard hit in the earthquake and about 200 people were killed. Much of the town was leveled too in the disaster. About 300 people were killed in total in Italy.

Currently #CharlieHebdo is trending on Twitter and many users have expressed disgust to the magazine.

One of the Twitter users wrote, “They hide themselves behind ‘satire.’ Leave your office, come here and stand in front of those people who’ve lost EVERYTHING.”

One another user wrote the cartoon is not satire, but it is pure disrespect for the lead and it is disgusting.
