Islamist rebel group Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) kills eleven people in the Beni city of Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on Wednesday after raiding the city late Tuesday night, said Mayor Nyonyi Bwanakawa.

The attacks and deaths have been confirmed by the Center of Study for the Promotion of Peace, Democracy and Human Rights.

The region has been under frequent attacks by the rebel group since 2014 and mostly by crude weapons.

However, independed experts points out some Congolese soldiers too have been involved in the attacks.

Violence in the country has also increased after President Joseph Kabila refused to step down with the end of his mandate in 2016.

Meanwhile, Beni has also become one of the several hotspots in Congo for increased violence and it is feared civil war may return back.

Congo will be voting for their next president this year in December but it is not yet known whether the election would replace Kabila.

Late last year the ADF had killed fifteen Tanzanian peacekeepers in Congo. A joint military offensive was thereafter launched against the rebel group with Uganda.

Hundreds and thousands of civilians are caught under the campaign and it is feared some 370,000 of them could be forced to feel homes.
