Traditionally, women have not been considered the ones capable of making the masses laugh. However, this does not mean that only males are funny. This lack of support and spotlight was because of the male patriarchy, which was hyperactive in the past. In the current era, women have been getting much-deserved attention and respect.

In the stand-up or comedy genre, it wasn’t roughly until the release of “Bridesmaids,” a 2011 female-led comedy movie, that people realized that women are just as, if not more, funny as men. In fact, these women are some of the best stand-up comedians period.

In this decade, a lot of new talented female comedians came onto the comic scene. Today, we will be listing the top 10 best female comedians that are killing it right now.

Ali Wong

Ali Wong is literally one of the most famous and loved female comedians on this list. If you have not checked out her work yet, we recommend you give her two Netflix specials, “Hard Knock Wife” and “Baby Cobra,” a watch.

On these specials, she delivers some of the rawest and honest digs on pregnancy in the history of pregnancy jokers. She is bold and doesn’t hesitate to talk about the wonder sand horrors of a female body.  She has also showcased her versatility in 2019’s “Always Be My Maybe,” where she showed her softer side of comedy.

Hannah Gadsby

Hannah Gadsby shocked her fans in her 2018 Netflix special “Nanette,” where she declared that she is quitting comedy for good. You can ascertain her popularity and fame by the fact that after this announcement, it wasn’t long before she delayed her retirement and all that because her fans wanted to see more of her. She is still doing stand-ups and recently finished a live tour of her new Netflix special “Douglas,” which is due to be released in 2020.

Chelsea Peretti

You may know about this star from the TV show “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” from where she gained worldwide fame, but she is much more than a funny actor. She has shown her skills and versatility by bagging a recurring role in Netflix’s “Big Mouth” and an appearance in 2018’s” Game Night.” She also was a writer on “Parks and Recreation.” She is destined for big things in the future, and you must be on the lookout.

Tiffany Haddish

Since beginning her career with a mesmerizing role in the movie “Girls Trip,” Tiffany Haddish has not looked back. After making her mark in “Girls Trip” despite dominating co-stars like Jada Pinkett Smith and Queen Latifah, she went on to host “Saturday Night Live” and became the first black female comedian so. For this, she also bagged a Primetime Emmy award.

Samantha Bee

You may already be aware of this amazing woman, who has been working so hard right now. She is a late-night TV show host, an industry still highly dominated by women.

Samantha Bee comes in every week completely un-filtered and slams men and women (mostly men) who are radical about their ideas in areas that are race-related, gender-related, political, economic, and so forth. She makes some very compelling arguments about the events happening in the nation.

Tracee Ellis Ross

Tracee Ellis Ross has recently started gaining the attention and fame that she deserves. She has been in the industry for over two decades and is an outstanding primetime TV female comedian. She also featured on ABC’s “Black-ish” and its new spin-off “Mixed-ish.” She is one of the top female comedians in the game right now.

Aubrey Plaza

She is a darkly comedic indie goddess who is famous for the same. Her most popular work and the project are “Parks and Recreation,” where she played a sullen but sweet intern, April Ludgate. She has done a lot more, though. Aubrey stepped out of her genre of dark comedy and was featured in FX’s Legion. She jumped in the genre with “Ingrid Goes West” and “The Little Hours.”

Bridget Everett

Bridget Everett is surely destined to be highly successful in the future because of her natural sense of humor and unreal work ethic. After beginning her horsey in theater and New York City’s cabaret clubs, she made it big as a comic through her recent roles in “Fun Mom Dinner,” Little Evil,” and “Patti Cake$.” She is incredibly witty, brash, bold, and big. Be on the lookout.

Oh, and Bridget has also appeared recurrently on Netflix’s “Twelve Forever” and “Lady Dynamine” and on the TV show “Love You More.”

Jessica Williams

Jessica Williams is the next big thing. She gained recognition on “The Daily Show” as a featured correspondent and has since been running “2 Dope Queens”, which is an incredibly popular comedy podcast. However, the main point that put Jessica William on a higher league than most was her performance in 2017’s “The Incredible Jessica James,” where she showcased us that she is as well an actor as she is a comedian.

Tig Notaro

Tig Notaro is one of the strongest women on the list, and her story before she gained fame would convince you in this favor. She was diagnosed with breast cancer and beat it; she also survived C-Diff and her mother’s passing. Despite all these dark moments, Tig Notaro continued doing stand-ups and hustling until she gained much-deserved respect and fame.

Jenny Slate

One of the most popular names of female comics, Jenny Slate, never fails to impress us. From her feature on low-fi indie comedy “Landline” to her voice acting on Netflix’s “Big Mouth,” she always delivers. Slate first gained popularity after 2014’s “Obvious Child,” and since then, Slate has bagged huge roles in “Bob’s Burgers,” “Lady Dynamite,” Parks and Recreation,” and “House of Lies.”

Kate McKinnon

She has surely been one of the top female comedians of the last two years. She also bagged an Emmy for “Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series” for her part in SNL for a couple of back-to-back years (2016 and 2017). In the current male-dominated world, Kate McKinnon provides a sigh of relief as he regularly pokes fun at men and uplifts women. She is highly talented and is here to stay.
