Nigerian fighter jet was on a mission to bomb Boko Haram, but mistakenly dropped the explosives on a refugee camp on Tuesday, killing more than 100 refugees and injuring about 100 others.

Among the dead were refugees, aid workers, civilians and two Nigerian soldiers too.

The casualties occurred in the northeastern town of Rann, near the border with Cameroon. Doctors Without Borders spokesman Etienne I’Hermitte in Geneva urged the Nigerian authorities to open the land and air borders for evacuations.

Doctors Without Borders said their staff has counted at least 52 bodies and added about 200 people are being treated.

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed regret and sadness saying it is a regrettable operational mistake.

Military commander Maj. Gen. Irabor confirmed the bombardment saying some civilians too were killed in the accident.
