BREAKING: Shooting in Ohio; 9 killed, several injured

A gunman opened fired in Ohio’s Dayton early Sunday to people who were enjoying a night out. Nine people have been confirmed dead within a minute and several others are injured. The mass shooting is second in USA in less than 24 hours.

Armed with an assault rifle, the gunman, identified as 24-year-old Connor Betts, approached the Ned Peppers bar located in the downtown Oregon District shortly after 1 a.m.

Police officers who were on patrol duty nearby shot the gunman and killed him within a minute after he starting shooting at the people in the nightclub.

It is learned someone from the bar grabbed the barrel of his long gun, but he continued the assault with a handgun.

Mayor Nan Whaley said, “I really want to — think about that minute. …If we did not have police in the Oregon District and the thousands of people in the Oregon District enjoying their Saturday evening, what we could have had in this city.”

Meanwhile, FBI has served a search warrant at his home in Bellbrook in Ohio.

According to US Senator Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, the shooter was a young white man and wore a body armor. He had a 223 high-capacity gun and magazines too.

No police officers have been injured in the assault.
