At least two dozen people have been killed including children and 28 others are injured after a Sunni mosque was attacked on Friday by a suicide bomber in northwest Pakistan. Rescuers transported the injured to nearby hospitals.

The attack has been claimed by a breakaway Taliban group.

It is learned the attacker yelled “God is Great” while entering the mosque filled with about 200 worshipers in the village of Ambar in the Mohmand tribal region.

Head of local tribal police, Pashin Gul, said the attack occurred at the time of prayers and was of suicide nature.

He added several worships are still in critical condition.

The breakaway Taliban faction is named as Jamaat-ul-Ahrar and its spokesman Ahsanullah Ahsan has taken credit for the attack through a press statement claiming they were targeting members of a pro-government militia.

According to Saeed Khan, army helicopter is being used to shift the critically injured to Peshawar.
