Kazakhs and Uyghurs in Xinjiang are being mostly targeted apart from many other Muslim citizens in China to cure them of religion. The groups are being isolated in a system of reeducation and detention camps which is officially being claimed to defend the country against Islamic extremism.

In 1999 China announced “Open Up the West” campaign and since then unrest in China’s West has been seen combined with geo-economic strategy of the country.

One official said the move is to prevent Xinjiang from becoming “China’s Syria.” It is learned about one million people have been sent into the camps. Many have been disappeared.

Meanwhile, Chinese representatives have denied allegations claiming the people have been either sent to vocational training schools or are arrested for minor crimes. Most of the so-called vocational schools have razor wire and guard towers.

Unlike the Tibetans the Uyghurs have low name recognition and championed mainly by conservative politicians who often deploy their issue cynically from an anti-China position and not pro-Uyghur.

However, it is true international communities would host Uyghur and Kazakh refugees, who may return back to China in future. It is important here to know that Germany is hosting Ugghur refugees and earlier this year ended their deportations to China.

It is also nearby countries like Thailand and Uzbekistan are aware their own citizens have been imprisoned in Xinjiang. These may lead to alleys retaliation in future.
