From today you can’t smoke in your cars if your children are on it and if you are in England or Wales. Both the countries have banned it under the Smoke-Free (Private Vehicles) Regulations 2015.

The new law says if children under 18 are traveling with you in the car, you will be fined for a penalty of £50. If the fine is paid with two weeks the amount to be paid will be £30 and it may go up to £200 if convicted in a magistrates’ court.

Meanwhile, the spokeswoman of National Police Chief’s Council says even though the new law will be in effect immediately, but the police and local authorities will not be harsh as education of the drivers are required.

A grace period of at least three months will be given in the education of drivers.

The law will not be applicable to convertible cars if it is moving with the top down and stowed.

The law will be applicable to motorhomes, campervans and caravans if the vehicle is moving. If the vehicle is used as living accommodation, the law will not be applicable.

The law will be applicable to electronic cigarettes or e-cigarettes.
