Gas Leak Explosion Destroys Motel 6 In Bremerton, Washington Injuring One

A gas leak explosion has leveled a large section of a suburban Washington state motel late Tuesday injuring one. Just moments before the building were evacuated by workers.

The explosion was intense and it blew back firefighters about 20 feet away. The one injury is reported to be of a gas company worker who he is in critical condition with second- and third-degree burns. He was flown immediately by air ambulance to a nearby local hospital.

The leak was first reported before 8 p.m. (local time), which is at 11 p.m. ET and at 8:24 p.m. the motel was evacuated.

The explosion was very intense. Neighbors thought as if a tree fell on their house. The sound as well as force were too high and made to feel about a big explosion, and not something that result with gunshot or firework explosion.

NBC News cited a local resident who said the explosion was so massive that it was like a bomb went off.

Beth Olson added further that she could feel the explosion in her eardrums and when she ran outside of her house to witness the matter it was dead silent. There were no birds or anything and the busy street was empty. Shortly sirens started.According to motel manager Tonya Hinds, she had the gut to pull the alarm just before the explosion even knowing it could cause major pandemonium, but it helped in taking out everyone from the building.

There were a total of 65 guests in the motel and 42 rooms were occupied.It is reported the blaze burned for several hours.No one is missing in the explosion, writes The Associated Press citing statement given by Bremerton Police Chief Steve Strachan. However, the officials will check the rubble carefully to ensure no one is trapped.The Bremerton town has a population of about 39,000 people.
