The government is highly criticized for being unable to prevent the attacks that killed around 300 innocent people.

Reuters quoted a senior security official who said the sacking was due to accumulated mistakes.

Haider announced on Facebook the dismissal of operations commander and removal of other security and intelligences officials too.

The deadliest attack over the weekend was on early Sunday morning in Karada neighborhood of Baghdad. It killed 292 people.

Many of the dead are still unidentified and health minister Adeela Hamoud has urged families to come forward for DNA testing to help identify the bodies.

People are claiming the government has failed in security equipment and procedures. The bomb detectors have become useless. British man who has sold the fake detectors has been arrested in the UK and Haider has ordered its security forces to stop using those in question.

Credit to the weekend attacks was claimed by ISIS.
