The surprise meeting between North Korean leader Kim Jong Un with Chinese premier Xi Jinping in Beijing has just concluded after Kim’s stay in the country for four days.

It was the fourth visit for Kim to China and third to Beijing. The two countries are ally internationally and trade partners too.

Without commenting much the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang said the meeting between Kim and Xi was to make joint efforts to up stability and peace on the Korean peninsula.

According to an editorial article in Global Times the surprise visit of Kim to china, on his birthday, illustrates both the countries are close and China’s role could be counted important in ongoing denuclearization talks.

The article added further, “We hope that the United States and South Korea can accurately understand the development of good relations between China and North Korea is significant in pushing for the denuclearization of the peninsula.”

Analysts speculate the visit may shore up relations between North Korea and China, and it could be a message to Trump administration that Kim has potential diplomatic and economic partners beyond South Korea and US of course.

Meanwhile, US and China are in talks lately to end trade war between them. If relationship deteriorates between the two economically powerful countries, Kim may find some opening.

In his New Year’s Day address the North Korean leader warned Washington not to make unilateral demands in denuclearization negotiating process.
