Nigerian President Buhari Extends London Stay Due To Health Checks

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari was scheduled to return home from British capital London but his spokesperson Femi Adesina released a statement to the National Assembly the date has been delayed as results of some health checks are still pending.

The 74-year-old was on a 10-day visit to London for holiday clubbed with routine health checks.

Adesina added the lower house and upper house have been informed about the delay of Buhari’s return to Abuja.

Buhari became president in 2015, but ahead of the election it was rumored he may not be physically fit for the chair. Lately his stay in London has speculated the same saying he may be gravely ill or even dead.

Nigeria is sensitive about Buhari’s president as former President Musa Umaru Yar’Adua died in office in 2010 from a long-standing and undisclosed kidney complaint. His deputy Goodluck Jonathan took over the office thereafter.

Similarly General Sani Abacha too died in office due to heart attack. He headed military regime in the 1990s.

Meanwhile, Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo has been deputed for Buhari in his absence.

Buhari headed a military regime in the 1980s. He was former army general ahead of it.
