Nokia announced Friday worldwide IoT network grid, in short named as WING, to help enterprises and service providers to connect their devices across the world.

It is learned the Finnish company may showcase the virtual global infrastructure at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) event scheduled to be held later this month.

The WING will include several private and carrier networks as well as satellite systems. The connection will wholly depend on an enterprise about how it wants to connect the devices and how to collect the data.

Mobile networks marketing & communication vice president Phil Twist said, “A global enterprise can actually have what they think is their own virtual network of global connectivity for their IoT devices.”

It is learned the WING will be made available commercially in the second half of 2017.

Prior to the announcement of WING, venerable satellite operator Inmarsat talked too about its own foray into global internet of things by linking low-power, unlicensed LoRaWAN networks with its global spacecraft fleet.

Nokia is learned to be coming up with a broader vision of a managed service with WING and the set-up to include low-power networks, cellular, Wi-Fi, satellites and wired infrastructure too.
