Powerful Quake Rocks Tajikistan; Triggers Tremors Across Central Asian Nations

A 7.2-magnitude earthquake has hit Tajikistan and tremors have felt in cities of other Central Asian nations including Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India.

According to US Geographical Survey, the epicenter of the quake was about 130 miles east of the Tajik capital of Dushanbe and about 75 miles away from nearest village in a sparsely populated area at around 12:50 p.m. local time (2:50 a.m. ET).

No casualty or damage has been reported due to the quake, said spokesman of Tajikistan’s Emergencies Committee.

RIA news agency writes the Russian military bases in Tajikistan are not affected too due to quake.

Social media has been flooded with photos, videos and reactions from across Central Asian nations. One user posted a picture from Pakistan’s capital Islamabad on Instagram revealing a building has been evacuated after the quake.

A reporter of Associated Press writes he felt two tremors within an hour in Bishkek, capital of neighboring Kyrgyzstan, south of Tajikistan.
