Following the death of Unnao rape victim Friday night in Delhi’s Safdarjung hospital the demand for justice has taken a peak across India. Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra blamed UP government for not providing security to the 23-year-old victim who was on her way to home when five men, including two alleged rapists, set her afire.

Priyanka Gandhi tweeted, “Why the victim of Unnao gangrape case was not given security keeping in mind an earlier incident of Unnao?”

She further asked what measures have been taken by the state government to stop crime that takes place regularly.

The senior Congress leader referred to another such attack earlier this year in which the price accused is BJP MLA Kuldeep Sengar.

Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party chief and former UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav has sat on Dharna outside the state Assembly seeking justice for the Unnao rape victim.

Yadav said he would be visiting the family of victim along with couple of senior party leaders.

He added the Yogi Adityanath government is responsible for the death of Unnao rape victim and women in the state are not safe.

Timeline

Two men alleged to had raped the woman in December 2018.
Case of rape was registered this year in March in Rae Bareli.
She was attacked and set afire by five, including two alleged rapists, on December 5 while returning home in Unnao from a local court for the hearing.
She suffered 90 percent burns and initially admitted to a hospital in Lucknow.
Later she was airlifted to Delhi and admitted to Safdarjung hospital for further treatment.
The victim died out of cardiac arrest on December 6.
