Two members of a local police unit opened fire on the Romanians before themselves being killed.

The insider attacks on international service members by the Afghan troops have been frequent over the years though lately such incidences have been less in number due to improved security measures.

The attacks on the Romanians came at such a time when NATO commander General John Nicholson is reviewing plans of cutting the number of US troops in the country by 2017 and the strength to remain would be almost half.

NATO-led international coalition in Afghanistan has released a statement after the attack saying, “We continue to train, advise and assist the ANDSF, and do not view this incident as representative of the positive relationship between our forces.”

There are about 600 Romanian soldiers in Afghanistan out of about 12,500.

Meanwhile, spokesman of the Kandahar provincial governor has said one policeman has been arrested in connection to the incident and is being questioned.
