The investment conference in Saudi Arabia’s capital city Riyadh on Monday was something different and something exclusive. The unique thing was a female robot Sophia who has been awarded a citizenship in the country.

Sophia becomes the first robot in the country to get the Kingdom’s citizenship. She is equipped with artificial intelligence and it is a good example how robot technology can make machines more human-like in near future.

When informed about being awarded Saudi Arabia citizenship during a group discussion the robot said, “I want to thank very much the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. I am very honored and proud for this unique distinction. It is historic to be the first robot in the world to be recognized with a citizenship.”

Sophia has been designed by Hanson Robotics, Hong Kong-based company, and its founder David Hanson said their goal is to create robots look like humans.

Hanson added the robots designed by his company can change facial expressions like humans do out of anger, sadness or disappointment.

The official website of Hanson Robotics writes the robots at their end have realistic design and can form meaningful relationships with humans.

At the conference Sophia said to be using her artificial intelligence to help people live better life and she would try to make the world a better a place.
