Six Tanzanian Celebs Questioned Over Drug Abuse Suspect

Top Tanzanian celebrities including singer Khalid Mohammed alias TID, former Miss Tanzania Wema Sepetu, Babuu wa Kitaa and Dogo Hamidu have been summoned and questioned at the central police station over suspects of drug trafficking and drug abuse.

The country has recently intensified crackdown on anti-narcotics trade.

The Ministry of Internal Security released a statement revealing six celebrities in total have been summoned.

Regional commissioner Paul Makonda said the list of people summoned in the recent crackdown includes three police officers, one musician and four other people.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports Nape Nnauye said the celebrities should be handled sensibly and cautiously to avoid damaging their reputations as the matter has already sparked public debate in the country about how they are being treated while questioning.

Nnauye added whether the celebs are right or wrong is not yet known but one thing is clear that they are victims of drug use and they are sick.

He further mentioned, “The difference is that they have big names and we all know them.”

Nnauye urge people not to judge the celebs based on the questioning process and as of now it is believed they are innocent until proven otherwise.
