Sri Lankan president Maithripala Sirisena will be visiting neighboring India on May 30 when Narendra Modi will be taking oath to start his second term and form government.

Couple of Indian media reports Sri Lankan establishment has confirmed Sirisena’s visit to India to balance ties.

Sources said the visit of Sirisena is to spread a strong message of Sri Lanka being keen on keeping momentum in ties.

Earlier this week Sirisena and Sri Lankan president Ranil Wickremesingh congratulated Modir fo landslide victory in the 2019 national elections held in the months of April and June in seven phases.

In a tweet Sirisena said, “Congratulations on your victory and the people’s re-endorsement of you leadership.”

Sri Lanka was stuck into a major constitutional and political crisis in 2018 for about fifty days after Sirisena took a controversial decision to sack Wickremesinghe from the chair of prime minister for Rajapaksa, who failed to prove his majority in the parliament.
