More than seventeen people were killed and about half ton injured in Shi’ite districts of Iraqi capital Baghdad Tuesday when suicide bombers detonated explosives in a commercial street.

In the first blast 8 people lost their lives and 29 others were injured. In the second bombing in a commercial street of Bayaa in western Baghdad 9 people were killed and 22 others were injured.

Suicide bombings are frequent by jihadist Sunni Muslim group on Iraqi Shi’ite Muslims.

The group has good control in the northern and western parts of the country including city of Mosul that it captured in 2014.

Two days before about half a dozen people were killed too in a suicide bombing in western Baghdad.

Yesterday twelve people were killed in the area of Tikrit in gun and bomb attacks.

Both the attacks were claimed by Islamic State militant group of Syria and Iraq.

The IS group also claimed responsibility of truck bombings earlier this year in July in the Karrada shopping area of Baghdad that took the lives of more than 300 people. The attack was deadliest in the country since the United States-led invasion in 2003.
